🐈 STORY OF THE WEEK: Cougar comeback in the UP

🦅 Bald eagle webcam goes live LINK
The Raptor Resource Project has launched a publicly available bald eagle webcam in Trempealeau, Wisconsin, allowing viewers to watch a nesting pair, Mrs. T and Mr. T, as they care for their eggs.
With over 220 bald eagle nests in Wisconsin, this project provides a rare live look at these once-endangered birds, contributing to both public enjoyment and scientific research.
The eagle nest, built in a white pine tree, offers protection from harsh weather, and the project’s moderators track the birds' behaviors using their own unique "eaglish" language.
🐦 Sandhill Crane hunting bill introduced LINK
A new Wisconsin bill (SB112/AB117) proposes a sandhill crane hunting season and financial support for farmers affected by crane-related crop damage.
The bill, developed by the Legislative Study Committee on Sandhill Cranes, includes hunting permits and a cost-share program to help farmers purchase crane-deterrent seed treatments.
While Republican lawmakers remain divided, opposition from some legislators and voters raises uncertainty about whether the bill will pass or be vetoed by Governor Tony Evers.
🪵 Trump executive order could mean more logging in WI LINK
Trump's executive order aims to increase timber production by streamlining environmental reviews, potentially expanding logging in Wisconsin’s Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.
Environmental groups argue the order threatens wildlife, water quality, and recreation, while loggers see it as a chance to boost industry and forest management.
The order is linked to tariffs on Canadian lumber, raising concerns over rising construction costs and uncertainty in the timber trade.
