🦃 Youth turkey hunt this weekend LINK

  • Dates: DNR encourages hunters under 16 to participate in the statewide youth turkey hunt on April 12-13, 2025, with a qualified adult mentor.

  • Licensing & Requirements: Youth need a spring turkey license, stamp, and harvest authorization, all available via Go Wild or local agents.

  • Harvest & Registration: One male/bearded turkey may be taken; all harvests must be registered by 5 p.m. the following day.

🐄 Bipartisan bill backs new grazing practices LINK

  • A bipartisan bill (you don’t hear that too often) proposes grants up to $40,000 for farmers using rotational grazing systems to improve soil health, animal welfare, and water quality.

  • The bill offers technical support and funding for managed grazing, aiming to reduce soil erosion, phosphorus runoff, and improve economic sustainability for farmers.

  • With federal funding uncertain, the bill would provide critical support for farmers, positioning Wisconsin to tap into the growing grass-fed dairy market.

🔥 Lakeshore State Park's first prescribed burn LINK

  • The DNR conducted a first-ever controlled burn at Lakeshore State Park in Milwaukee to enhance prairie habitat and improve native vegetation.

  • The burn aims to reduce hazardous wildfire fuels, support bird and insect species, and combat invasive plant species like mustard and alfalfa.

  • A public informational hike will be held on April 19th to educate visitors on the benefits of prescribed burns. See pictures here.
