🥳 State Parks celebrate 125 years LINK
Wisconsin's State Park System celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2025, marking over a century of conservation, recreation, and expansion across more than 120 properties.
Established in 1900 with Interstate Park, the system grew through efforts like the Civilian Conservation Corps, early park expansions, and key partnerships that shaped its development.
Investments in new campgrounds, amenities, and accessibility initiatives like OutWiGo highlight the system’s ongoing growth and commitment to outdoor recreation.
🦌 DNR approves deer management changeup LINK
The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board approved shifting deer management from county-based to habitat-based units in northern and central forest zones, aiming to better address regional differences in deer populations.
The changes, supported by hunters and conservation groups, respond to declining deer numbers in northern Wisconsin and longstanding frustrations with the county-based system.
Some critics argue the new boundaries need more public review, while others worry the changes won’t effectively grow deer populations on public lands.

Rhinelander has received 37 inches of snow so far this winter, which is about a foot less than normal, with lighter, fluffier snow dominating this year.
Meteorologists suggest that the transition from El Niño to La Niña weather patterns, along with cold temperatures and dry air from Canada, has led to a lack of heavy, wet snow in the area.
While lighter snow is easier to shovel, it has made trail grooming difficult for cross-country skiers, though many are still grateful for any snow after last winter's dry start.
