🤯 Story of the week: This WI lake is 70 degrees in the winter, attracting anglers, jet skiers, and wind surfers year round

🏆 Near-record Sturgeon took two spears, four ‘Scons to haul out LINK
Angler Hayley Herzig speared a massive 180.5-pound lake sturgeon on Lake Winnebago, making it the fourth-largest ever recorded in the fishery.
The fish put up a fierce 20-minute fight, requiring a second spear and four people to haul it through the ice hole.

🔥 DNR to start prescribed burns across the state LINK
The Wisconsin DNR will conduct prescribed burns across the state, taking advantage of ideal winter conditions to safely manage vegetation like cattail marshes, wetlands, and wet prairies.
These controlled burns help maintain healthy ecosystems by reducing invasive species, improving wildlife habitats, and enhancing soil nutrients.
Extensive planning ensures burns are conducted safely, with public notifications and real-time updates available on the DNR Prescribed Burn Dashboard.
🌱 Ready-to-plant oak seedlings for sale LINK
The Wisconsin DNR is selling 2-year-old oak seedlings from Wilson State Nursery, thanks to a strong acorn harvest in 2022.
Four native oak species—swamp white oak, bur oak, white oak, and red oak—are available for reforestation and habitat enhancement.
The nursery operates under state law to support reforestation efforts, with a minimum order requirement of 300 seedlings.
